Fort Montagu is the oldest fort still standing on New Providence, built in 1741 from local limestone at the eastern entrance to Nassau Harbour. The compact waterfront fort played an important role in the island’s colonial defenses and remains an accessible historical stop along East Bay Street. It is a good addition to an island tour for visitors interested in Bahamian history, harbour views, and landmarks outside the main downtown core. Fort Montagu can be included as part of a broader Nassau itinerary that combines sightseeing, culture, and island experiences.
